Summer Adventures!

By Valexis Vang

El Capitan FFA Chapter Reporter

Over the summer, many of our FFA members and staff had the opportunity to participate in various activities to represent our chapter. This ranges from Madysen Dietz and her success at the California State Fair, 2 of our FFA members at Washington Leadership Conference, and Mr. Fishman's Welding Conference in Miami, Florida.

California State Fair

Madysen Dietz represented the Merced-El Capitan FFA chapter at the California State Fair where she showed lambs. She was named the 2024 Supreme Champion Challenge Exhibitor, Champion Large Animal Exhibitor and Champion Sheep Exhibitor. She brought home more than $3,000 in prize money! This is a huge accomplishment for her and she is just entering her third year into high school, we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next. Mady Dietz has been around agriculture her whole life. She started showing animals at 9 years old. She loves forming bonds with each animal she raises. She spends about two hours every day tending to her animals while also fitting basketball, golf, flag football and track into her schedule and still maintaining a 4.3 GPA! Washington Leadership Conference

Washington Leadership Conference

Advaitaa Shyamprasad & Adrian Soto had the chance to attend the Washington Leadership Conference representing El Capitan FFA. This conference provided them the amazing opportunity to meet members from all across the country and see National Monuments while working on their leadership skills to better the community. They were able to meet with Congressman Duarte, and received a tour of the capitol building. Both students created living to serve plans, which detailed methods for serving their community this upcoming year.

American Welding Society : Welding Summit 2024

Mr. Fishman, our Welding advisor, had the awesome opportunity to attend the 2024 Welding Summit in Miami, FL. There are 22 sections & 1 instructor from each section gets chosen to attend. This was huge for him because there are a lot of other great welding instructors out there as well that aren’t chosen to go.His favorite part of the conference was getting to meet other instructors from all over the nation, and Canada. He had an awesome time learning with them and learning what and how they teach their classes differently. Mr. Fishman learned a lot of new information that he is excited to bring back to El Capitan FFA to help his students grow & succeed!
